Gurteen's take on business objectives

http://www.gurteen.com/gurteen/gurteen.nsf/id/X000155AE/

The above link is to an article written by David Gurteen in response to an article written by Michael Schrage. The Schrage article states how Knowledge Management is a "BS" issue. The article outlines how KM cannot be used as a primary business objective and lists everything else that should be.

Gurteen's response backs up the allegations of KM being "BS" in terms of business objectives and iterates that it was never designed to be. Managers are always looking for that silver bullet that will resolve all business issues. KM cannot be seen as this silver bullet and Gurteen iterates that and expands upon what he feels the primary business objectives are.

KM is Dead?

http://www.cmswire.com/cms/social-business/knowledge-management-in-2012-probably-dead-014352.php

Above is a link to an article written by Roan Yong who states that Knowledge Management is dying and will likely not make it to the end of 2012. His reasoning behind such a drastic statement is that Knowledge Management is so broadly defined as a term and that it attempts to accomplish far more than it can handle. He mentions that this concept will be replaced with "Social Business" which, from what it seems, is also very loosely defined.

Oracle is buying Knowledge Management Vendor InQuira

http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/236804/oracle_buys_inquira_to_boost_fusion_crm.html

The above article is from PC World. This explains how Oracle is buying out InQuira to improve their Fusion Application products by offering better Knowledge Management capabilities.

Oracle provides complete, open, and integrated business software and hardware systems for 370,000 customers in 145 countries. It's the only vendor able to offer a complete technology stack where every layer is integrated to work together as one system. Started 30 years ago with a relational database and now offers a complete stack: Oracle Enterprise Linux OS, Oracle VM, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Sun Storage Systems.

InQuira is a Knowledge Management Vendor that is privately held and has about 85 customers including Sprint, 3M, Yahoo and Avis. Their software helps companies improve effectiveness of customer-service operations.  InQuira uses patented Natural Language Processing capabilities that help determine the true intent of a customer’s question.

Oracle’s Fusion CRM Application was developed for 6 years. Acquiring InQuira will fill the gaps in the product. InQuira’s software has been integrated with Oracle’s CRM on Demand since 2009. CEO of Constellation Research said: “InQuira is one of the top knowledge management vendors in the business. Oracle could build out its own knowledge management system but the fact is that knowledge management is a specialized niche, not only in terms of technology but the customer base."
